A hilarious and surprisingly informative read i fully recommend it to any one with an interest in mythology or just creatures in any form. It's about 200 pages but pretty packed so you wont feel like it rushes anything.
A great fun read and very unique!!! I am a big fan of greek mythology and gave this book a go. It's a fictional journal of Henry Lomax as he travels around finding creatures from mythology but then the story takes a darker turn. Not to ruin but it gets more action packed and emotional than youd expect from the first few chapters.
All the characters are unique and ....yeah ...unique and some of the dialogue is hilarious. I especially loved the Zeus and Hera back and fourth.
The parallel made between humans and the divine is also intriguing, and the lessons Henry learns and conveys to readers are quite profound in their scope. The message we seem to be left with is both one of unity--we all share the same problems--and individuality--we are ultimately responsible for ourselves, our own happiness, and our own decisions. In conjunction with the wonderful use of humor and the absurd, this book contains a deep undercurrent of moral and existential profundity
I could not get past the part of the minotaur lady in her kitchen... I tried but I just couldn't bring myself to read more, there was nothing in this book for me; it was not clever, not funny and definitely not something I enjoy reading.
If you are into Mythology at all, this is a must read. The modern day juxtapositions are fascinating. I enjoyed it very much, and marveled at some of the conceptual developments.
